Only 2.3% of high school women's soccer players compete at the NCAA Division 1 level. Less than 1 in 6,000 girl youth soccer players compete in college.

During the 2016-2017 school year, there were about 388,339 high school women's soccer players and about 38,873 college women's soccer players. Of these college players, 1,155 were international recruits. This means that about 9.7% of U.S. high school women's soccer players ended up competing in college across the Division 1, Division 2, Division 3, NAIA and junior college levels.  Only 2.3% of high school women's soccer players compete at the NCAA Division 1 level.

Less than 2.3% of high school men's soccer players compete at the NCAA Division 1 level.

It is difficult to find similar stats regarding Men's college soccer participation, but since  21% of collegiate men’s soccer players in the U.S. at the Division 1 and Division 2 levels come from overseas, it is reported that fewer than 2.3% of high school men's soccer players compete at the NCAA Division 1 level.
